We’ll arrive early in the morning with STP Airways (our recommended carrier) and begin the day with a delightful breakfast in the heart of the capital, São Tomé. Sip on the island’s world-renowned coffee and sample freshly made local delicacies that will awaken your senses.

Energised and ready to explore, we’ll set off on a guided city tour led by a local guide. Together, we’ll discover the vibrant Independence Square, wander through the colourful stalls of the Municipal Market, and admire the historic Church of Our Lady of Grace. As we stroll through the lively streets, you’ll be immersed in the island’s history, culture, and everyday life.

After a morning rich in discoveries, we’ll enjoy a traditional lunch at a charming local restaurant, where each dish is prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Refreshed and satisfied, we’ll continue our journey northward, surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery at every turn.

As the day winds down, we’ll be treated to one of Sao Tome’s most spectacular sights: the sun setting in golden splendour over the Atlantic Ocean, a moment you’ll carry with you forever. We’ll end the day at the serene Hotel Mucumbli, a cosy seaside retreat that offers the perfect setting for relaxation and rejuvenation.

The day begins with a delightful hotel breakfast, showcasing an array of fresh, local flavours to awaken your senses.

Our first stop is the breathtaking Blue Lagoon, a natural oasis where the morning sun sparkles across crystal-clear waters, the perfect spot for a relaxing pause or a refreshing swim.

From there, we travel to Roça Agostinho Neto in Guadalupe, formerly known as Roça Rio D’Ouro. Once the largest cocoa plantation on the island, it now stands as a living testament to São Tomé’s rich cultural and agricultural heritage.

Before lunch, we’ll follow scenic, winding roads to the pristine Tamarind and Governor’s Beaches. En route, we’ll pause at the Batepa Massacre Memorial, a solemn site honouring a pivotal chapter in the island’s history.

In Neves, prepare for a culinary highlight: the famed santola (spiny crab), a true delicacy and a must for any food lover visiting São Tomé (see note).

The afternoon takes us to Santa Catarina, often regarded as the island’s northernmost point. Here, dramatic coastal landscapes unfold before you, offering some of the most spectacular views along the Equator. The journey includes a passage through the iconic Santa Catarina Tunnel, a natural rock archway carved by time and tide.

We’ll close the day back in Neves, raising a chilled glass of Rosema beer at our accommodation’s bar as the sun sets in golden splendour over the Atlantic.

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll set off on a scenic morning drive toward the southern reaches of São Tomé.

The route hugs the coastline, revealing breathtaking panoramas at every turn. As we travel, the island’s striking contrasts come to life: the north’s sun-kissed slopes and drier terrain gradually giving way to the south’s lush, emerald rainforests. Along the way, we’ll pass vast palm plantations, where locals harvest seeds for palm oil, and enjoy awe-inspiring views of Pico Cão Grande, the island’s dramatic volcanic tower rising from the jungle.

By midday, we’ll arrive at the São João dos Angolares plantation for an unforgettable culinary experience. Here, renowned Chef João Carlos Silva will present a menu that celebrates the authentic flavours of São Tomé, each dish crafted with local ingredients and creative flair (see note). The meal is perfectly paired with sweeping views over Santa Cruz Bay, adding a visual feast to the gastronomic delight.

After lunch, we’ll wander through the plantation grounds, learning about its storied past and the innovative sustainability projects that shape its future.

Our journey concludes in Porto Alegre, the island’s southernmost village. Here, we’ll settle into our beachfront bungalows, where dinner will be served in a cosy, oceanfront setting, with the gentle sound of waves providing the perfect soundtrack to end the day.

We’ll start our day with a delightful breakfast served right on the beach, serenaded by the gentle rhythm of ocean waves. Afterwards, we’ll set out for the breathtaking lheu das Rolas, a charming islet steeped in natural beauty and unique charm.

We’ll spend the morning exploring this enchanting paradise, where we’ll visit the iconic Equator Marker and relax on the pristine sands of Cafe Beach, where turquoise waters meet soft white shores. This is an idyllic setting for rest and reflection.

For lunch, we’ll enjoy an authentic meal prepared with love by a local family, offering a true taste of the island’s rich culture and culinary traditions, served right by the sea (see note).

In the afternoon, we’ll unwind at Bateria Beach, soaking in the sun and taking refreshing dips in the crystal-clear waters of this tranquil haven.

As the day draws to a close, we’ll return to our cosy accommodation, where dinner awaits under a magical moonlit sky, accompanied by the soothing sounds of waves gently lapping the shore. A perfect end to a day of discovery and serenity!

Today, a short jeep ride will bring us to the charming fishing village of Malanza, where we’ll board a traditional piroga, an expertly rowed canoe guided by a knowledgeable local expert. As we gently navigate the winding course of the Malanza River, we’ll be surrounded by magnificent mangroves: an ecological sanctuary bursting with lush vegetation and vibrant wildlife, including playful monkeys and colourful birds.

As lunchtime approaches, we’ll return to Porto Alegre and make our way to the idyllic Praia Piscina. Here, a special lunch (see note) will be lovingly prepared and served by a local family right at the water’s edge, offering an authentic taste of island life.

Today marks our last day in the breathtaking southern region of the island. We’ll start with a delightful breakfast by the sea, savouring these final moments in this serene paradise.

As we journey back north, we’ll make several memorable stops. Our first visit is to the abandoned hospital at Roça Agua Ize, a poignant relic that offers a glimpse into the island’s complex past. Next, prepare to be amazed by the dramatic Boca do Inferno, where relentless waves have carved spectacular rock formations that captivate the senses. We’ll also pause at the stunning Praia das Sete Ondas, a perfect spot for unforgettable photos. Here, the striking contrast of black volcanic sand against lush greenery creates a truly breathtaking scene.

By late afternoon, we’ll arrive in the vibrant capital, Sao Tome, just in time to enjoy a themed dinner at the CACAU Cultural and Recreational Association, a special event held every Thursday (see note). This immersive evening blends a rich cultural presentation with traditional dances, giving you a deep dive into the heart of São Toméan culture while delighting your palate with authentic local cuisine.

Our day will begin with an exhilarating jeep journey into the heart of the island, ascending to Monte Café at elevations above 1,300 meters. Our first stop is the historic Roça Monte Cafe, São Tomé’s largest coffee producer. Here, we’ll delve into the fascinating processes behind coffee and cocoa production, all while savouring the rich, authentic aromas and flavours that define the island’s heritage.

Next, we’ll visit the charming Roça Saudade, famed as the birthplace of celebrated artist Almada Negreiros. His legacy is lovingly preserved in the museum house that bears his name; an enchanting space that will also host our lunch (see note), served on a terrace overlooking an endless sea of lush greenery.

Returning to the capital, we’ll have time to explore and pick up souvenirs, perfect keepsakes to capture the essence of this unforgettable journey.

As evening falls, we’ll gather for a farewell dinner at one of São Tomé’s traditional restaurants. Here, the rich local flavours will evoke memories of the island’s vibrant culinary scene.

For those who wish to keep the celebration going, our guide will lead a toast with gravaninha, a local liqueur, at a cosy, lively bar. This is the ideal setting to honour shared moments and stories that will stay with us forever.
